June 30 (Renewables Now) – Russian Internet company Yandex (MCX:YNDX) plans to fully run its Mantsala data centre in Finland on wind power purchased from local renewables firm Ilmatar Energy.
The two parties have entered into a five-year power purchase agreement (PPA) under which Yandex will source electricity from wind farms operated by the Finnish company.

The Russian search and ride-hailing provider is pursuing a “greening” of its energy mix. It has determined that 52% of its carbon footprint comes from electricity consumption, or Scope 2, and 90% of that is attributed to data centres.
The contract will become effective on January 1, 2022, and will help Yandex cover almost 20% of the total electricity consumption of its data centres around the world with regionally-sourced clean energy.
